Orchard In Bloom spiffs up for spring with a fresh NEW look

Orchard In Bloom kicks off the show with a farmer's market plus Sara Snow of the Discovery Channel.

The dates for the 2008 Garden Show are May 2, 3 and 4 at Holliday Park.

Recognized by The American Horticultural Society as one of the top garden shows in the country, Orchard In Bloom is a distinctive garden and art show featuring gardening and landscape ideas and products; national exhibitors with a broad range of art and merchandise; live music; speakers; and children's activities. The event draws more than 9,000 visitors each year to Holliday Park--one of Indianapolis' oldest and largest parks located at 64th and Spring Mill Road. Proceeds support outdoor education programs at Holliday Park and The Orchard School.

Sara Snow, creator and host of Get Fresh with Sara Snow and Living Fresh for the Discovery Network, will be a featured speaker at the show on Friday, May 2, 10 a.m. Ms. Snow will do a cooking demonstration using organic ingredients fresh from the farmer's market on Friday at 10 a.m. Join her to learn how to make fresh organic Gazpacho and a simple farm fresh fruit fool.

Fans of Ms. Snow appreciate her message of simple, attainable green living. Having grown up in a family with a passion for taking care f the environment, Snow uses the platform of her primetime series on Discovery Health Channel to pass along tips on everything from making healthier food choices to choosing environmentally friendly cleaning products. Offering everyday examples, Sara inspires her audience to take steps toward a more natural lifestyle. In each episode of her show, Ms. Snow highlights companies and people who are leading by example and making a greener lifestyle accessible and practical. Joe Lamp'l, host of "Fresh From the Garden" on DIY Network will be a featured speaker at the show on Friday, May 2, at 2 p.m. and on Saturday, May 3, at 12 Noon. Mr. Lamp'l is not only a gardening expert; he's a passionate educator, dedicated to sharing his knowledge of horticulture by providing resources to gardeners of all levels. His fresh, inspirational and nurturing personality, along with his ability to present complicated subjects in an easy to understand manner make him a sought after communicator around the country.

OIB is expanding to include a farmer's market at the show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Buying local or organic is a big step towards a greener lifestyle. In keeping with the show's move towards going green, vendors for the OIB farmer's market are local and use mostly organic practices. Farmers will offer fresh greens, herbs, eggs, dairy products and grass-fed meats. Stock up on wholesome ingredients and put those tips from Sara Snow to use!

Rooms In Bloom is back by popular demand. This feature showcases trend-setting ideas for patio and porch living. See premier interior designes, landscapers, outdoor furniture vendors and container gardeners join forces to create extraordinary "outdoor-living room" vignettes. A People's Choice Award will be given to the Rooms In Bloom entry deemed the most imaginative.

Visit the Garden Pavillion tents to see examples of innovative gardens created by landscape designers. Scattered throughout the show are Microgardens, specialized gardens ideally suited to small spaces. Shop the Gardener’s Market where regional and national exhibitors sell handcrafted tools, elegant garden furniture, herbs, blooming plants and flowers, art and accessories for home and garden. Treat yourself to a purchase of one-of-a-kind jewelry and take advantage of the endless gift ideas. Come talk to experts from local gardening organizations and not-for-profit groups. Children’s Activities include entertainment such as a magic show and face painting and hands-on projects such as using a potter's wheel or creating ceramics. Satisfy your hunger at the Aladdin Garden Café with a variety of taste temptations. Enjoy live music or take home tips from our expert speakers.
